Floral Renewal

This necklace is about the beauty of nature and the miracle of connection between the pollinators and the regeneration of our native flowers. I have selected blooms from trees, shrubs and flowers. The pollinators I have represented in this work are the colourful but endangered Blue Banded Bee, the Richmond Bird-wing butterfly and the stunning Ulysses butterfly.

This is the first piece in my collection, and will soon be accompanied with a cuff style bracelet and a selection of earrings.

The Catch

The images below are of my casting net which is the signature piece for my “Toxic Beauty” collection. It is an embroidered work which encapsulates both the beautiful marine life as well as the nasties in our oceans. The mesmerising rainbow which travels all around the net represents a toxic oil slick. There are schools of plastic bottle fish and plastic bag jelly fish.

These jewellery pieces talk about the elements which create algal blooms in our waters. They are often chemicals from our everyday life which has made its way into our natural environment and forms colourful but toxic flower-like growths which shimmer in the sunlight. These earrings come in a diverse range of shape and colours. I make them to suit individual clients, for example, some people have long necks and enjoy wearing a long drop, others prefer a short drop. The drop posts come in sterling silver or coloured titanium, the hooks are always sterling silver
